ipconfig Command






The ipconfig command is a powerful tool in Windows that allows you to view and manage your network configuration settings.

Key Functions:

  • Display Network Information:

    • ipconfig: Displays basic network configuration information for each network interface, including:

      • IP address

      • Subnet mask

      • Default gateway

      • DNS server addresses

    • ipconfig /all: Provides a more detailed view, including:

      • MAC address

      • DHCP lease information

      • Name resolution servers

      • Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN)

  • Manage DHCP Leases:

    • ipconfig /release: Releases the current IP address assigned by a DHCP server.

    • ipconfig /renew: Requests a new IP address from the DHCP server.

  • Flush DNS Cache:

    • ipconfig /flushdns: Clears the DNS resolver cache, which can be helpful when troubleshooting DNS-related issues.

Example Usage:

  • View basic network information: ipconfig

  • View detailed network information: ipconfig /all

  • Release and renew DHCP lease: ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew

  • Flush DNS cache: ipconfig /flushdns
